The Hellenic Foundation for Culture expands its network of partnerships and representatives around the world by entering into cooperation with the Institute of Classical, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Tbilisi.

The presence of the HFC in Georgia was inaugurated with a series of activities, events and meetings that took place during the visit of the President Mr. Nikos Koukis and HFC associates as well as the author Dimitris Nollas, who was invited on the occasion of the Georgian publication of his book “Journey to Greece” (Ikaros Publications, 2013).

In particular, meetings were held with the Rector of the University of Tbilisi Mr. George Shervashidze, the Director of the Institute of Classical, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Tbilisi Mr. Levan Gigineishvili, the Director of the Writers’ House, Mrs Natasha Lomouri, the President of the Georgian Publishers’ Association, Mrs Gvantsa Jobava, the President of the Federation of Greek Communities of Georgia, Mrs Eugenia Kotanidis and the Ambassador of Greece in Tbilisi, Mrs Maria Theodorou.

At the same time, in the framework of the 24th Tbilisi International Book Fair which took place from 26 to 29 May, the HFC in cooperation with the Institute of Greek Studies of Tbilisi organized a series of events in the main presentation hall of the Fair and in the “House of the Writer” of Tbilisi:

 “The influences of ancient Greek drama in the work of Campanelli”

The event, which was held at the “House of the Writer”, was introduced by the President of the HFC Mr. Nikos Koukis and the art historian and member of the Board of the HFC Mrs. Louisa Karapidaki, followed by the screening of a documentary (30′) on the life and work of the honored writer (produced by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture).

Presentation of the GreekLit translation programme

The presentation was held in the framework of the professional events of the Exhibition, by Nopi Hadjigeorgiou, Coordinator of HFC International Exhibitions, while the representative in Tbilisi and Professor of Greek Language at the Hellenic Institute, Mrs. Sophia Siamanidou, spoke about the HFC’s activities.

The new GreekLit translation support programme attracted the interest of Georgian publishers, who are looking for new ways of approaching and cooperating with Greek publishers, following Georgia’s successful participation in the Thessaloniki Book Fair in November 2021.
