The Greek Community of Melbourne and the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales have committed to closer cooperation following a recent meeting in Athens, Greece, between their respective presidents.

Con Apoifis, President of the Greek Community of New South Wales, and Bill Papastergiadis OAM, President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, met recently in Athens, Greece, where they discussed opportunities for mutual collaboration and future delegations with Greek and Australian political leaders, for the benefit of Greek communities across Australia. “Working together, our communities can speak with a stronger, more unified voice,” said President Apoifis. “This meeting marks an important step toward greater collaboration for the benefit of all Greek Australians. My meeting with Bill was both cordial and productive. Bill was very keen to work collaboratively. I am confident the relationship between our two organisations will flourish.”

Both organisations intend to continue regular dialogue and coordinate future representations to government officials in Greece and Australia.

“We have always had an excellent relationship with the Greek Community of Sydney. Harry Danalis and Nia Karteris were great to work with. It is heartening to meet Con. He is committed to doing his best to deliver services and actions for his Community. I can see our relationship will be one which is highly productive. In my meeting with Con we spoke of some joint cultural initiatives which we hope to announce in the near future – said Mr Papastergiadis
