BlueCycle, the only Greek social initiative company of the Blue and Circular Economy that holistically addresses the goal of protecting the marine environment, was awarded through a global competition by Maison & Objet. BlueCycle emerged as a pioneer in the field of design, utilizing innovative techniques and sustainable practices with a positive environmental impact and was awarded the prize in the “Future On Stage” category.

BlueCycle’s international distinction is the first and only award for Greek participation in the institution and in particular in the “Future On Stage” award category, which rewards start-up companies that innovate in the field of design, shaping a more environmentally optimistic future.

The jury of “Future On Stage”, chaired by Mélanie Leroy – Managing Director of SAFI/Maison&Objet and members are Vincent Grégoire – Director of Consumer Trends & Insights of NellyRodi, Philippe Lehr – Director of Sales and Development of Designerbox, Franck Millot – Director of Paris Design Week, Florence Delage – Director of Sales of Le Bon Marché, Cristiano Benzoni – co-founder of Studio REV and Vincent Romeo – founder of Blog Esprit Design and Director of Agence 14 septembre, voted unanimously to award BlueCycle from Greece, also Anga from France and Tosco studio from Portugal, among hundreds of entries from all over the world.

As part of the award, Maison&Objet is putting the spotlight on and hosting BlueCycle at the 30th anniversary exhibition, which will take place from Thursday 18 to Monday 22 January in Paris. The flagship exhibition, with this year’s theme “TECH EDEN”, highlights the modern connection between science and nature, promoting a more sustainable, better future.

BlueCycle participating in the Maison & Objet 2024 anniversary exhibition will present for the first time its new collection entitled “Kavos”. Objects and furniture inspired by ship mooring buoys, made from recycled nets and marine debris, combined with BlueCycle’s BlueTerra surface, also awarded for its environmental footprint.

This distinction of BlueCycle reinforces with one more award its international recognition as the Greek success story of the Blue and Circular Economy that holistically addresses the goal of protecting the marine environment, standing out once again at a global level, both in the field of environmental protection and in the field of aesthetics and design.

Through a pioneering programme, BlueCycle has collected over 550 tonnes of marine plastic waste, collected from more than 40 sites in Greece. This marine waste is transported to Piraeus, where the BlueCycle Lab, a zero-waste specialized laboratory for its processing, creates with the help of high technology, high quality recycled raw material and upgraded value-added products, such as furniture and utility and design items, which are available in BlueCycle’s e-shop (www.madebybluecycle.com).
