The invention of paper is interwoven with the need of man to express, capture and communicate his thoughts, reflections, dreams, and above all his inexhaustible creativity, which springs from life itself and the way man perceives it
The Patras International Festival inaugurates its new section of the visual arts, which will from now on be part of its events, with an exhibition titled Illusion / illusion 10 + 10 POLAND / GREECE, which will be hosted at the Old Municipal Slaughterhouses space. The exhibition opened to the public on Thursday, July 1st, and will run through July 31st.
The exhibition consists of works by artists who use paper as a basis, central to their ideation and creation, and includes works by famous Polish and Greek artists. After all, the “ARTISTS WITHOUT BORDERS. PAPER NO LIMIT” project was first presented in 2005 by Janusz Jerzy Cywicki in Poland and continues to this day with group exhibitions in many countries. From the use of paper as a material for creating 3D objects, to collages, watercolors, pencil, ink, and mixed media artworks, the unlimited possibilities of artistic expression offered by a seemingly insignificant material are highlighted.
As noted at the opening ceremony of the exhibition by Ms. Geropanagioti, President of the Cultural Organization of Patras, “[the invention of paper] is interwoven with the need of man to express, capture and communicate in every way and by any means his thoughts, reflections, dreams, and above all his inexhaustible creativity, which springs from life itself and the way man perceives it. […] By studying the history of paper, we ‘read’ the historical evolution of man and society “.
