The Folegandros Cultural Association presents an art exhibition by Kalliopi Lizardou titled “Folegandros: A Visual Fairy Tale,” which will be on display in the Hall of the Folegandros Cultural Association from August 12 through September 11.
The exhibition features twenty small- and medium-sized works, created using iconography pigments on pieces of wood collected from the island itself. The choice of materials reinforces the works’ deep connection to Folegandros, as elements of its natural landscape are transformed into painterly surfaces and take on new life through art.
With sensitivity and a personal perspective, Kalliopi Lizardou captures the light, the colors, the land, the sea, and the island’s unique atmosphere. Her works do not merely depict familiar images of Folegandros, but convey experiences, memories, and emotions connected to her homeland.
The use of iconography powder lends the works a distinctive texture, luminosity, and depth, while the natural and irregular surfaces of the wood retain the traces of time and place. The natural material and the painting coexist, creating a dialogue between landscape, memory, and artistic creation.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to view works created for the pages of a children’s book and discover the intersection of painting with the world of children’s storytelling and imagination.
The works themed around Folegandros coexist with the illustrations from the fairy tale, creating a unique dialogue between the real place and the world of imagination.
The exhibition invites visitors of all ages to explore familiar landscapes, view the island’s natural environment in a new light, and follow the journey of the image from the canvas to the pages of a children’s book.
The opening will take place on August 12 at 8:00 p.m. in the Hall of the Folegandros Cultural Association.
The exhibition will run through September 11 and is open to visitors of all ages, both residents and visitors to the island.
