“Sea, Memory” is an interactive and interdisciplinary initiative organized as part of the Ministry of Culture and Sports’ “ALL OF GREECE, ONE CULTURE” program, combining an exhibition of engravings with sound, music, and performance art. The Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis, which takes the sea as its thematic focal point, provides the conceptual framework for the exhibition. The works span nearly the entire history of modern Greek printmaking, from classical forms to contemporary visual expression, in an unexpected, creative dialogue.

The engravings are linked together within the museum environment through audio trails, which visitors can access using a simple digital app. They function as intangible connecting and narrative threads, guiding visitors on an experiential “journey” toward a multisensory approach.

The exhibition approaches humanity as a being and as a subject: as body, community, and memory that take shape within time and space. Humanity’s relationship with the sea is understood here not merely as a natural or poetic condition, but as a structural and active element of human nature and organization: a means of survival and exchange, a place of work, ritual, and myth, a realm of movement and cultural osmosis. The sea emerges as a cultural landscape, inscribed with collective experiences and social practices, as well as personal journeys of self-discovery and growth. It distills the multifaceted nature of human existence, sanctifying and purifying, presenting an existential vision of a shared spiritual semiotics of light…
(from the curator’s note).

At the same time, a musical event and dance performance will take place in the Museum’s courtyard. A ritualistic musical experience in which the ancient Greek lyre is combined with live soundscapes, women’s voices, poetry, and dance. The musical journey begins with the Odyssey, weaves through iconic traditional songs, and culminates in contemporary musical compositions. The musical event concludes with a dance inspired by Archaic iconography, creating a vivid narrative scene.
