The play is based on the short story “The Professor’s Testament” from the collection The End of Our Small Town (1963) by Dimitris Hatzis. The short story incisively highlights how those in power behave in a provincial town in Greece.

In a melancholic yet comical manner, it vividly portrays the conflicting interests, passions, the malice, and the distortion of the mission of the community’s various institutions. The plot begins with the death of Professor Rallidis, a man who sought to fulfill his duties responsibly and serve as a source of inspiration for his students.

In the play, two women critically observe the events unfolding and document them through a game of role-playing, in which they convey the words of the story’s characters and parody the pettiness of some of them. They try to find their place in a society where men call the shots, rejecting the norms they encounter around them and creating their own in order to reform society.
