How should we evaluate the meaning of a monument that stands as a powerful and silent narrator of stories, which often guide our behavior?

An open invitation to participate, through the contribution (lending) of colorful small rugs and indoor plants, from the community of Chania, in the framework of the project “Serious Games“, by the artist Jenny Marketou, which will be presented from 11 to 30 October 2021, at Yali Tzami, in Chania, with the support of the Municipal Gallery of Chania.

How should we evaluate the meaning of a monument that stands as a powerful and silent narrator of stories, which often guide our behavior?

Serious Games” is an interactive platform, which supports actions, the collection of stories, food for thought and creativity workshops, around the concept of decolonization, revolving around a monument-symbol for the city of Chania, the Yali Mosque, in the Venetian Harbor.

Jenny Marketou transforms the space of the Mosque into a laboratory space, equipped with hybrid seating structures, small tables, shelves, books, local plants, carpets and rugs that will be offered for use by members of the community of Chania, following this Open Call. Almost all the materials that will be used are remnants of older installations, which will now be put to new uses.

For the rugs, there is no restriction on the shape or exact dimensions, and diversity is encouraged.

The rugs and plants that will be borrowed will be recorded and the name of the donor will be printed and displayed in the Yali Mosque.

The project team is committed to ensuring the proper maintenance and care for the objects and plants and everything will be returned to the respective donor, one day before the end of the exhibition.
