DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS 15/7/2022

For the third time, the 6th Art-Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair (3-6 November 2022) and the Cultural Society of Entrepreneurs of Northern Greece (PEEBE) invite young artists, up to 33 years old, to apply for the MATAROA AWARDS.

Aiming at the artistic promotion of young creators and their promotion in the artistic potential of the country, they organize through a competition, a thematic exhibition and the awarding of respective prizes for the artists who will be distinguished. Through the process of open call with the submission of a portfolio and evaluation of the candidates by a special 5-member committee, 10 young artists are given the opportunity to exhibit their work individually in a specially designed space at the 6th Art Thessaloniki Fair.

The jury and the public will select the most remarkable participation among the 10 selected portfolios, awarding a prize of 1,500 euros, as well as two honorary awards of 700 euros/each. In addition, the 10 selected artists will be presented on the websites of Art Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair, www.art-thessaloniki.gr | www.artforum.gr and the Cultural Society www.peebe.gr | www.culturalsociety.gr, while the thematic publication MATAROA will host a special tribute to the first prize winner in print and online www.mataroa.gr.

OPPORTUNITY/ENTRY PROCEDURE:

– Young visual artists (up to 33 years old), graduates of the Higher School of Fine Arts

– Non-graduates with at least one solo or group exhibition in a well-known gallery.

– The 10 selected in MATAROA 2019 and 2021 are not eligible to participate.

METHOD OF SUBMISSION, MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Send a portfolio of paintings, sculpture, mixed media, installation, with 7 to 10 photographs of the works, 300 to 500KB each.

Each photo must be displayed in a different file (not .pdf) and must have a full description as below:

– name of the artist

– name of the artist, name of the artist, dimension of the work, material.

Attached to the email will be a short biography with a recent photo of the participant.

INFORMATION

The MATAROA project is a platform for Greek artists and contemporary culture in Greece.

An initiative of the Cultural Business Association of Northern Greece that aims to promote contemporary Greek artistic creation and cultural activity. The MATAROA project has three main pillars: the printed publication, the website and the eponymous awards for young artists.

Art Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair has established itself as the most important art event in the South-Eastern part of Europe, which apart from its commercial dimension, with the presentation of important galleries from Greece and abroad, a large part of it is dedicated to culture with exhibitions and projects of high prestige. It is implemented by Pantelis Tsatsis Founder and Artistic Director in collaboration with TIF-HELEXPO at pavilions 10-9 8.
