Historian Valentin Groebner discusses the relationship between the history of tourist destinations and the ‘time travel’ promised by travel agencies. By means of a journey through famous historical attractions, Groebner examines this sense of seeking the “authentic” and “genuine”, the attempts to reconstruct and preserve bits of the past, as well as the exploitation and commercialization of history by the tourism industry.
