This brief study attempts to present the global history of populism, and the attempts to evaluate it from the perspectives of social and political theory. It identifies the failures of classical approaches and then analyzes critical socio-scientific views that attempt to transcend the anti-populist stereotypes of classical liberal and modernist thought.
