In the mid-18th century, young Frederick II, later king of Prussia, wrote Anti-Machiavelli, a critical review and response to Machiavelli’s Prince. Being a patron of Voltaire, Frederick asked him to review and comment on it extensively, and so in 1740 this masterpiece of political philosophy was published in French. The principles of the Enlightenment are heavily reflected in Frederick’s ideas and writing.

‘Anti-Machiavelli’ by Frederick II and Voltaire is published for the first time in Greek. The volume also includes Machiavelli’s original text.
