Russian Nadya Tolokonnikova, founding member of the feminist-activist art collective Pussy Riot, and award-winning British writer Deborah Levy are two of the keynote speakers at this year’s WOW – Women of the World Athens 2024 festival, which will take place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC) from 6 to 8 April. Tolokonnikova and Levy join the already impressive line-up of speakers announced for this year, which includes British art historian, journalist and writer Katy Hessel and Australian playwright Suzie Miller.
WOW – Women of the World is the world’s largest event for women, femininities and non-binary people. Since 2010, when the first festival was held in London, WOW has grown to more than 100 festivals and events reaching over five million people in 30 locations across six continents.
WOW Athens attempts for the second year to address the most topical issues in the struggle for gender equality, both locally and internationally, and to give a platform to the voices and stories that inspire and give hope for a more just world.
In this context, those who visit the festival will have the opportunity to explore a rich programme that includes: talks with guest activists from Greece and abroad, discussions on key issues, from domestic violence to women’s labour rights and from gendered urban planning to mental health, photography exhibitions, empowerment workshops, inspiring stage readings and film screenings, concerts by well-known artists, mentoring sessions and much more.
