This year, the Athens Epidaurus Festival offers a rare experience, welcoming the public for the first time to the evocative Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus at midnight, for two special performances that take advantage of the venue’s unique nighttime atmosphere, as part of the “1-1-1” (One composer – one work – one actress) and C_MUSIC NOW series.

A. The first late-night event is the play “(Alcestis) Landscape After the Promise” by Dimitris Kamarotos, which will be presented on June 26 and 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

This is a unique theatrical experience at the archaeological site, featuring a solo performer and a string quintet.

A rebellious and unruly work, *Alcestis* breaks free from Euripides’ text and transforms into a dimly lit monologue, in which the heroine does not narrate her sacrifice but rather traverses it—drawing the audience into a wander through the nighttime archaeological site of Epidaurus. The natural and musical landscape reveal a path of transition to anyone who needs to see it.

The performance lasts 90 minutes.

Buses departing for the return trip to Athens leave at 2:00 a.m. from the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus on both days.

Β.Oedipus Steps,” composed by Zisis Seglias, will be presented on July 10 and 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

The hallmark of great works is that they conceal other, unknown elements within them. Like the two insurmountable tragedies of Oedipus. Like a camera following the hero off-screen, like lost footage being screened for the first time, this adventurous encounter of music, dance, and speech transports us to the back rooms of his mind, just before his union with the light.

The performance lasts 45 minutes.

Buses departing for Athens will leave at 1:30 a.m. from the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus on both days.

With a view to providing the best possible service and convenience for attendees, the Festival, in collaboration with the Argolis Intercity Bus Company (KTEL), announces the operation of special buses from Athens directly to the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus.

The buses will depart at 8:30 p.m. from Athens (150 Iera Odos, bus stop near the Eleona metro station).
