The Cervantes Institute of Athens in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, the Hellenic American Union and Sólo Teatro presents the 13th edition of the
Ibero-American Theatre Festival taking place February 19 to March 11, 2024 at the Hellenic American Union Theatre (22 Massalias Street, Athens).

For the 13th year, the Festival returns with a series of works that revolve around topical social issues, sharp questions and deep emotional dilemmas, directed by Greek directors and with the participation of Greek actors. This year’s plays are Maria San Miguel’s The Look of the Other, directed by Konstantinos Markellos, Chamaco by Abel Gonsales, directed by Stavros Ragias, The Intentions by Ayna de Kos, directed by Ioanna Niaha and Smiley 2, After Love by Guillem Clua, directed by Minos Theocharis and Dimitris Makalias.

This year, Maria San Miguel and Abel Gonzalez Melo will attend the readings of their works and then discuss them with the audience.

19/02, 18:00 – The Look of the Other, Maria San Miguel. Translation: Maria Chatziemmanouil. Directed by: Konstantinos Markellos. Read by the actors: Eleni Stergiou, Ioanna Tzika, Yannis Mastroyannis. A room in the prison. Three persons: the mediator, the victim and the perpetrator. Are there more things that unite us with others or that separate us from them? On the occasion of the letter released in late 2010, from Nanclares de la Oca prison by former ETA members detained there…

28/02, 18:00 – Chamaco, Abel Gonzalez Melo. Translation: Maria Chatziemmanouil. Directed by: Stavros Ragias. The actors: Dina Avagianou, Fenia Apostoloy, Achilleas Vatrikas, Despina Giannopoulou, Manolis Klonaris, Panos Kotsoglou, Periklis Lianos, Konstantinos Mitrakas, Stavros Ragias. It’s Christmas Eve in Havana and two boys are playing their fate on a chessboard. A crime, an escape, a pool of blood. A family deeply touched by love, madness and death. The city becomes a puzzle that everyone dares to solve quickly, not knowing it will cost them their lives.

4/03, 18:00 – The Intentions, by Ayna de Kos. Translation: Maria Chatziemmanouil. Directed by: Ioanna Niaha. Read by the actors: Maria Karydi, Ioanna Niaha, Lydia Orfanoudaki, Varvara Rabaouni, Chionia Chiotelli. Laura is in her forties, has no great expectations of her life and just wants to live it in peace. She decides to invite her fellow students to her birthday party. She will soon discover that this was a wrong choice…

11/03, 18:00 – Smiley 2, After Love, by Guillem Clua. Translation: Maria  Chatziemmanouil. Directed by: Minos Theocharis, Dimitris Makallias. Read by the actors: Minos Theocharis, Dimitris Makalias. Eight years after the premiere of Smiley in Barcelona, the stars of
return with the second part of their story. The unforgettable Alex and Bruno meet the audience again to tell them what happened to them all this time and to face more mature and deeper problems, but just as entertaining as those in the original play.
