2023 Eleusis continues its actions this April with Mystery 97 University Theatre Festival, in a first pilot edition at Cine Eleusis. The aim of the festival, which will take place on 6 and 7 April, is to enable young artists to find a platform and a springboard for creation, exchange, and networking. In collaboration with the Theatre Department, School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Mystery 178 Picking Flowers with her Girlfriends will be hosted at Cine Eleusis until 8 April. An exhibition dedicated to the flora in the archaeological site of Elefsina by the visual artist Violeta Diamanti-Meletiou and the teacher Irini Yovanou accompanied by photographs by Thanasis Milisis.
The third three-day event of Mystery 176 Cinema Days will take place at Cine Eleusis from 12 to 14 April. A series of documentary screenings pertaining to the artistic programme of 2023 Eleusis, the city, as well as to contemporary concerns around current and timeless issues. Mystery 197 Paper World – Letter to Elefsina will be presented at Canteen Art Hub from 13 to 16 April. Nikoleta Granitsa creates an original and unique world through the paper footprint of the 2023 Eleusis activities, paying a personal tribute to the Elefsina she loves so much.
MYSTERY 32 Open Eleusis – Οne Documentary, Many Stories will take place on 14 April at Cine Eleusis. The Open Eleusis team presents the results of its work in Elefsina over the last year. In collaboration with the Research Centre for the Humanities (RCH). The project is implemented in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0 with funding from the European Union-Next Generation EU.
An exhibition-tribute on the work and life of painter Thanos Tsigkos and photographer Vangelis Tsakos will be inaugurated on 17 April at Elefsina Old Town Hall. The exhibition, titled Mystery 199 Thanos Tsigkos, Vaggelis Tsakos presents original works, archival material, and numerous documents from two fascinating artistic lives with a rich oeuvre and legacy. The exhibition will be framed on 17 and 21 April by two public discussions. The results of the 2nd self-assessment workshop for the international participatory design project titled Pilot Cities, which took place on 9 March, will be presented on 22 April at Cine Eleusis. The participatory process of self-evaluation manifested the dynamics of local groups, and established the value of citizens’ access to participatory city planning.
A few days later, on 26 April, Mystery 189 Myths and Legends of Elefsina will take place at Cine Eleusis. A presentation of the research conducted by Athanasios Katsaras, potter-engraver, regarding the manufacturing of three Eleusinian amphorae. The historic cinema Cine Eleusis will also host the last project of the month, on 27 April, titled Mystery 14 Human Requiem in Eleusis. The screening of the film of the site-specific performance directed by Jochen Sandig and choreographed by Sasha Waltz, with the participation of the 60-member Rundfunkchor Berlin, created for the archaeological site of Elefsina and presented in September 2023.
