
The Master’s Program “Creative Writing” of the Department of Early Childhood Education in the School of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Western Macedonia announces the opening of the application period for the 2026-2027 academic year, with a total of two hundred forty (240) spots available.
The longest-running and most renowned Creative Writing Program in Greece, directed by Professor Triantafyllos I. Kotopoulos, continues the tradition of linking academic research with artistic creation and educational practice.
Master’s Degree in Education
The Master’s Program in Creative Writing awards a Master’s Degree in Education with the following four specializations:
- Creative Writing and Literature Writing
- Creative Writing and Education
- Creative Writing and Screenwriting
- History and Writing of Pontic Literature
The quality of a graduate program is judged, first and foremost, by the people who teach it. In the Master’s Program in Creative Writing, students have the opportunity to learn from professors, researchers, and leading figures in contemporary Greek literature and art.

- Professor and Director of the Master’s Program Triantafyllos I. Kotopoulos, poet and pioneer in the introduction and establishment of Creative Writing in Greek education.
- The acclaimed prose writer Isidoros Zourgos, one of the most widely read Greek novelists of our time.
- The leading lyricist Lina Nikolakopoulou, whose lyrics have left their mark on four decades of Greek song.
- Singer-songwriter, composer, and performer Dionysis Tsaknis, with a long career in Greek music and literary writing.
- Poet and publisher of the historic literary magazine Mandragoras, Kostas Kremmydas.
- Konstantinos Fotiadis, Professor Emeritus of Modern Greek History and an internationally recognized authority on the history and memory of Pontic Hellenism.
- Gonda Van Steen, holder of the Koraes Chair at King’s College London and Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies—an international academic presence that bridges the Master’s program with the global community of Hellenic Studies.
- Katerina Bei, screenwriter for films and television series, and author.
- Kleoniki Drouga, lecturer in the Department of Film Studies at the University of Thessaloniki.
