The interim Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was appointed on Friday 1st December 2023, the internal member of the Council of the University, Professor Apostolos Apostolidis, according to the issued act of confirmation.
Mr Apostolidis, on the occasion of assuming his new duties, said “I am taking over the administration of the University at a special time. My goal, as interim Rector, is to contribute to the smooth and creative operation of the AUTH during the performance of my duties.”
Finally, Mr Apostolidis thanked the outgoing Rector, Professor Dimitrios Kovaeus, for the rich and important work he produced during his term of office.
Brief bio of Professor Apostolos Apostolidis
Mr Apostolidis is Professor at the Department of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Director of the Laboratory of Aquaculture & Fishery, since 2004. He has significant administrative work, as he has been Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Environment since 2019 (two consecutive terms) and, among other things, he has served as President of the Department of Agriculture (two terms, 2013-2017), member of the seven-member Management Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2015-2018) and Deputy President of the University Student Club (2021-2022). He has more than 30 years of research experience with modern laboratory techniques in molecular biology and genetics and has participated in many national and international research projects as a researcher/collaborator and as Coordinator/Scientific Officer. His main research interests include Animal and Population Genetics, Genetics of Conservation and Population Management, Evolution, and Molecular Classification of Species. His authorial work includes a large number of publications in international SCIE journals, proceedings of international and national conferences, Greek scientific journals, translations and special publications and has received considerable recognition from the international scientific community. He has served as a peer reviewer of dozens of papers in many SCIE international journals and many papers submitted to National and International Conferences. Furthermore, he has served as an evaluator of national and international research proposals, external reviewer for promotion/appointment of members of foreign institutes and reviewer of foreign PhD theses.
