The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy and the Municipality of Kilkis present the exhibition “RISE MY SOUL”!…. Images and music of the refugees of ’22. The opening will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 12:00, at the exhibition space of the ” Austroelliniki” Smokehouse, in Kilkis.

The exhibition is structured in six sections. The first section takes us on a journey through the life and music of the Greeks in the lost homelands of Asia Minor, Eastern and Northern Thrace, Cappadocia and Pontus before 1922. Then, the Catastrophe and Exodus, loss, the trauma of refugeeism and life in the new homeland are the main themes of the second section. The role of music in the individual and collective identity of refugees, in everyday life and in the feasts in the refugee settlements is traced in the third section of the exhibition. Asia Minor rebetiko and its main representatives constitute the next section, while later art song and the way its creators were inspired by the musical and lyrical heritage of the refugees are presented in the fifth section. The thematic sections conclude with the work of the pioneering researchers, folklorists and musicologists who have recorded and preserved much of this musical wealth in time.

Photographic, audiovisual and archival documents of important institutions for the preservation of historical memory in our country, associations, organizations and individuals, converse in the exhibition with lyrics and various melodies: dirges, traditional songs and dances, Asia Minor rebetika as well as modern Greek music production, which was influenced by the musical breath of the refugees.
