In this book, the leading American anthropologist Clifford Geertz examines a notion of culture, drawing on the traditions of semiotics and interpretive, cultural, and social anthropology. Through the author’s view of culture as a “network of meanings” carried by symbols, the role of cultural perceptions in the organization of social life is highlighted, while at the same time exemplary ways of analyzing culture are presented.
