The exhibition by cartoonist Michalis Kountouris, titled “Jazz on Canvas,” is being held as part of the Syros Jazz Festival, Syros’s annual international jazz festival, which is taking place this year in Ermoupoli for the 14th consecutive year (Apollon Theater, Ermoupoli, September 10–13, 2026).
For the past seven years, the jazz festival has been organizing a jazz comics exhibition in which Michalis Kountouris has participated three times (2020, 2025, 2026).
The exhibition features new works created specifically for the Festival, as well as older pieces that have been published in the “Efimerida ton Syntakton” and the street magazine “Schedia.”
The works will be on display at the Plastico gallery-café, a multi-purpose café and arts space that has been operating in Ermoupoli for a decade, owned and directed by painter Spyros Baras. Throughout this time, the gallery has hosted numerous exhibitions and other artistic and literary events, such as exhibitions by (among others: Eva Karaba, Theodoros Merko, Peter Macken, Antigone Kourakou, Maria Tzirozidou, James Chadderton, Janet Flynn, Myrto Tzima, and many others).
The opening took place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 8 p.m., and the exhibition will run through the end of September.
