The exhibition “The Marble Index: Curatorial Autofiction” presents, for the first time to the public, a significant portion of the collection of curator and art historian Christoforos Marinos.

The collection, which has been gradually assembled over the past twenty-five years, includes works by 111 artists. At the Chrysanthopoulos Mansion in the Tower of Kymi, 81 artists are represented by their works. The “Marble Index” is a narrative centered on the curatorial practice and curatorial identity. It is the chronicle of a perspective and the imprint of a journey that began in 2001 and continues to this day.

What does it mean for a curator to curate his own collection? The uniqueness of this collection lies in the way it was assembled: it emerged through long-standing and fruitful collaborations, through exhibitions and texts, through friendships and gestures of trust. The works in the “Marble Index” serve as valuable points of connection with artists who have been interlocutors and companions. In the exhibition space, the collection is organized as a unique archive of relationships and connections. The layout departs from the linear narrative of art history and from strict chronological criteria. Works from different generations, media, and aesthetic directions coexist, connecting times, images, and references.

Curatorial autofiction serves as the exhibition’s primary interpretive framework. It describes the way in which the curator reconstructs his own journey through his works and aesthetic choices. The presentation of the collection at the Tower of Kymi, the site of his childhood, lends the exhibition a special symbolic character. The Chrysanthopoulos Mansion, an annex of the Kymi Folklore Museum, is transformed into a treasure trove of images.

Among the works in the exhibition, Ilias Papaeliakis’s “Two Figures” engage in a dialogue with a drawing of three figures by Giorgos Bouzianis, in an encounter that transcends time. Works by Yannis Varelas and his teacher, Rena Papaspyrou, also hold a special place, as do two works that were presented in major group exhibitions at the Desmos Art Gallery in the 1970s: Vasilis Skylakos’s original toy from the exhibition “Proposal for a Toy” (1975) and Takis’s magnetic jewelry from the exhibition “Jewelry–Anti-Jewelry” (1978).

“The Marble Index” is part of a series of exhibitions at the Kymi Tower, which began in 2024 with the group exhibition “The Inner Side of the Wind” and continued in 2025 with “Underground.” Following these two thematic exhibitions, this year’s event focuses on the public presentation of a solo collection with a strong biographical and experiential dimension.
