A visual diary of a film project that never came to fruition. This series of works is inspired by the writings of Jean Genet and centers on a retired sailor haunted by the sea.
Part confession, part fiction, it explores ideas about identity, sexuality, mortality, desire, and the nature of perception. The work also reflects on the way we live our lives through images—how cinema and photography penetrate our inner lives and become part of our collective memory.

The images are intended to evoke a sense of intimacy and cinematic quality, like the pages of a personal diary. A soft background and a sense of sensuality, as if memory and desire have left their mark. An absolute and sacred silence. A window into Zene’s world. A space of confession, punishment, and tenderness. The longing and the violence of the ocean, inseparable.
The project is a collaboration between the photographer and an elderly male model who embodies the role of the sailor, the film’s imaginary protagonist. The photographs are divided into three parts, tracing a man’s life from youth to old age. They focus on the fleeting nature of youth, love, and desire. The sea becomes a metaphor for life’s great passions—those forces that shape us and then leave us. How do we live without them? What happens when masculinity fades?

By turning the camera on himself, the photographer reveals his own vulnerability and desires. The work consists of a series of black-and-white images created with analog cameras, Lomo photography, and alternative techniques, accompanied by a video installation and a soundscape.
