
The Ministry of Culture announces a State Playwriting Competition for the year 2026, with the aim of strengthening and promoting Greek theatre, based on Article 41 of Law 3905/2010 and No. YPPO/53474/06.02.2026 (ADA: Ψ25Ι46ΝΚΟΤ-ΛΒΑ) issued by Ministerial Decision.
The competition includes the following awards:
- State Award for Playwriting
Anyone can submit a play in this category.
Cash prize: €7,000.
2. State Award for Playwriting for Children
Anyone can submit a play in this category.
Cash prize: €5,000.
3. State Award for Young Playwrights “Chrysa Spilioti”
Only young playwrights can participate in this category.
The concept of a new playwright includes those whose theatrical work has not been previously published, performed, performed on stage, or formed the basis of a film or television production, nor have they been submitted to other competitions organised by any public or private body.
Cash prize: €5,000.
In each of the above competitions, the competent Committee may award a Commendation to a work that has not been awarded a prize but is distinguished for its boldness and innovation.

Submission deadline
Works may be submitted until Thursday, April 30, 2026.
Type and specifications of submitted works
Submitted works may belong to all genres of dramatic art. They must be written directly in Greek (and not translated into Greek).
