Music creation, like all creative fields, has been confronted in recent years with the new reality of artificial intelligence. Musicians around the world are seeing their works being used by IT companies to mine material and train AI.

For professionals in the field, music is not an amateur pursuit but their livelihood. In recent years, through collective and persistent effort, creators have managed to collect and manage royalties for the intellectual property rights of their works, which constitute a basic source of income for them. In Greece, creators are represented by AUTODIA. The organization collects and distributes royalties from all sources of income and is a certified partner and member of all global and European associations of creators’ organizations.

With AUTODIA as their vehicle, Greek artists are joining forces with their colleagues around the world to demand, first and foremost, the start of negotiations between companies that manage artificial intelligence and music production bodies. After all, already today, and even more so in the near future, artificial intelligence is producing music, perhaps gradually replacing real creators.

The creative work of musicians, lyrics, composition, and performance are being exploited by companies without any compensation for the musicians.

The issue does not concern musicians alone. Writers, screenwriters, essayists, editors, visual artists, and many other professionals will sooner or later face the same questions: How will their work be protected? How will they respond to the challenge of Artificial Intelligence? How will original work coexist with the mass, rapid production of AI?
