Winemaker Vangelis Gerovasiliou was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Eastern Studies at the University of Macedonia, honoring a career that connects the Greek land with innovation in winemaking, entrepreneurship, social contribution, and culture.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 5, at the University of Macedonia’s Ceremony Amphitheater, in the presence of members of the academic community, associates, friends, and representatives of the business and cultural world.

In his speech, entitled “From the Vineyard to the University: Fermenting Knowledge, Experience, and Culture,” Vangelis Gerovasiliou stated:

This is an honor that fills me with joy, gratitude, and responsibility, because I believe that it is being bestowed upon me on behalf of an entire community that serves the Greek land, the vineyard, and the production of quality wine in our country with dedication and self-sacrifice, guided by the fundamental principles of ethics and consistency. It is a title that transcends my personal journey and highlights something deeper: the close relationship between education and production.”

In conclusion, he emphasized the importance of knowledge and creativity as common ground between the vineyard and the University:

I hope we all keep growing—each in our own ecosystem—knowledge, responsibility, and the joy of creation, which is the essence of culture.”
