Dimitris Pikionis is one of the few Greek artists whose work has gained international recognition.
The exhibition “Emotional Topography” was first presented in February 2025 in Madrid, as an initiative of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in collaboration with the Benaki Museum.
The exhibition is now being transferred to the Benaki Museum, where items from the Pikionis Archive, which belongs to the Museum, are on display. At the center of the exhibition is Pikionis’s most famous and representative work, the configuration of the area around the Acropolis hill in Athens, access to it, and the route to Philopappos Hill. A contemporary model, created for the exhibition in Madrid, gives us an overall view of this very special project that Dimitris Pikionis worked on every day, always being at the construction site and totally focused on the expected result.
The three parts of the exhibition trace Pikionis’ career and work. Letters, drawings, photographs, and paintings reveal the architect’s influences and working methods.
The exhibition is curated by Juan Miguel Hernández León, architect and President of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and Covadonga Blasco, Scientific Director of the School of Artistic Professions at the Círculo de Bellas Artes. The exhibition has been adapted to the exhibition space by Natalia Boura, Head of the Modern Greek Architecture Archives at the Benaki Museum, architect Natalia Boura, and the graphic design is by Dora Rokou-Pikioni.
