The history of Classical Philology is of particular importance to our country. In 19th-century Greece, it was—along with the two other major archaeological sciences, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History—a science of national self-awareness, with all the benefits and burdens that this entailed. Nevertheless, the relevant bibliography has been sparse. This collective volume, dedicated to the memory of a great classical philologist, Aristoxenos D. Skiadas (1932-1994), contributes to this study. It comprises fifteen chapters, each with its own separate bibliography.

The project was based on the presentations given at a conference on the same topic held at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens in April 2024. As for the authors, classical philologists naturally make up the lion’s share, but researchers from the fields of history, modern Greek literature and comparative literature, and the reception of the ancient world also participate.

Specifically, the texts in the volume are authored by: Angela Gioti, Vangelis Karamanolakis, Nikoleta Kanavou, Ioanna Karamanou, Eleni Bekiaris, Theofanis Tsiambokalis, Michalis D. Konaris, Stavros Tsitsiridis, Aikaterini Koroli, Marianna Thoma, Spyros I. Ragkos, Amfilochios Papathomas, Margarita Sotiriou, Stefanos A. Tokos, and Vasileios P. Vertoudakis.
