Art exhibition “In Their Footsteps… 127 Years Later,” July 19 to August 24, 2025.

Zareifios Vocational School
The Virtual Museum of Tinos (EMT), as part of the Ministry of Culture’s program “All of Greece One Culture, 2025,” presents the multifaceted action “In Their Footsteps… 127 Years Later,” dedicated to the preservation of the weaving art of Tinos and specifically to the Zareifeios Vocational School of Tinos and its revival today through works of contemporary visual creation. The exhibition presents a convergence of art and memory in a creative dialogue that brings past and present together through contemporary artistic approaches. The program of the action includes exhibitions, lectures, art workshops, as well as screenings of research videos curated by EMT, which will take place in historic venues of the island – the Ursuline School, the Zareifeios Vocational School of Chora, and the Weaving Workshop of Pyrgos.

Iraida Cano
The exhibition is inspired by contemporary reflection on collective memory and its transformations in space and time, approaching weaving as a living cultural practice and means of creative expression, through the historical prism of research in the present. The artists utilize traditional materials and techniques, enriching them with contemporary media, to highlight both the element of memory and contemporary social and environmental issues through a fresh, dynamic visual discourse.

Vally Nomidou
The curator of the exhibition, Louisa Karapidaki, notes: ‘The participating artists, renowned in the visual arts, create with their works an informal conversation between contemporary art creation and traditional weaving techniques. They use a variety of materials and “interweave” with yarns, papers, fabrics, wires, LED cables and painterly interventions. In the diverse artistic manifestations of their personal plastic aesthetics and narrative, they conceptually refer to the symbolic dimension of the social memory of material culture and highlight the timeless value of hand-weaving.”
