The Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Tourism Department of the Directorate of Culture are organizing the “2nd Recycling Festival of Cooking Utensils and Used Frying Oil,” an environmentally friendly event that will take place on the occasion of the World Sustainable Gastronomy Day, on June 18th at the City Hall, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The Municipality of Thessaloniki invites citizens and professionals to renew their kitchens by recycling their old pots, pans, and ladles (plastic, metal), as well as their used cooking oils, helping to create the sustainable city we dream of. By recycling used frying oil, we contribute to a 90% reduction in CO2 greenhouse gas emissions, prevent sewer blockages, support wastewater treatment plants—thus saving money—and benefit the environment.

From 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, residents will be able to bring their old and worn cooking utensils, which will be placed on a large green “G” (the logo of the Municipality of Thessaloniki representing its inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network) and then collected by the Directorate of Recycling and Circular Economy Systems Development for recycling. Used frying oils (in 1.5-liter plastic bottles) will be placed in special bins provided by the company “Prasino Ladi” (Green Oil) and forwarded for biodiesel production. Upon handing over a utensil or used frying oil, Thessaloniki residents will receive a flowerpot.

This event is part of the activities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, of which the Municipality is a member.

The event is supported by the Central Macedonia Waste Management Agency (ΦοΔΣΑ Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας), the company Prasino Ladi, and the seed company Agris S.A.
