The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation is pleased to announce the completion of the project “From the Aegean to the Ionian Sea: A Sea of Knowledge”.
Since its establishment in 2007, the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Greek culture in Greece and internationally. With a focus on Greek letters and historical and maritime research, the Foundation has made accessible to researchers and the general public a vast collection of documentation, while offering integrated educational programs that aim to decode and bring this knowledge to the present day.
In line with the Foundation’s mission, the multifaceted project “From the Aegean to the Ionian: A Sea of Knowledge” is an evolution of the way Greek island and maritime culture is preserved, highlighted and disseminated.
Through digital exhibitions & repositories, educational applications, educational games, educational productions and training programmes, users, regardless of age, come into contact with history, poetry, the sea, tradition in a participatory learning and entertainment experience. The applications bring cutting-edge technologies to the forefront, highlighting their unlimited potential and multiple benefits for culture, preservation and knowledge dissemination.
Digitising and presenting for the first time online a significant part of the Foundation’s rare publications and exhibits and developing a series of interactive digital applications and immersive practices, this innovative project offers a modern model for the management and promotion of historical and cultural capital.
Among other things, the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation created the first digital art gallery in Greece, offering a holistic experience in the work of Konstantinos Volanakis. Visitors have the opportunity to admire the works of K. Volanakis in high resolution, to save their favourites on their computer and/or mobile phone and to read the explanatory entries. Of particular value are the apps that accompany the collection. Painting pages, 3D paintings, puzzles and electronic greeting cards invite users, young and old, to interact and dialogue with the works of the great marine artist.
Also, on the occasion of the grant-funded project “From the Aegean to the Ionian Sea: A Sea of Knowledge”, the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation launches a new series of educational programmes, which operate at will, remotely and without the assistance of a special lecturer/instructor. The series of educational programmes with the main focus on literature and mental, emotional empowerment are presented in a speceial section of the Foundation’s website and access is free for the whole educational community: students, teachers and parents. Those interested can browse and save the original material for use as they wish, inside and outside the classroom.
The aim of these programmes is to make it easier for students, parents and of course teachers to approach contemporary issues in a pleasant and creative way. The Foundation’s desire is to free access to knowledge and educational tools from geographical boundaries and is committed to further and systematically develop this area.
The whole project “From the Aegean to the Ionian Sea: A Sea of Knowledge” and the applications are presented on the website aseaofknowledge.laskaridisfoundation.org/
All applications are offered free of charge.
