His family donated the archive of the important poet and writer Kostas Montis to the University of Cyprus.

The signing ceremony of the Agreement for the Donation, Use and Exploitation of this important archive at the Library of the University of Cyprus took place on Monday 25 November 2024 in the presence, on behalf of the Montis family, of Mrs. Stalo Montis-Pouagare, Mr. Marios Montis and Mr. Lellos Montis. On behalf of the University of Cyprus, the Rector, Professor Tasos Christofides, the Director of the Library, Mrs. Elena Diomidis-Parpouna and the Head of the Digitization and Archives Management Office, Mrs. Sylvia Koukounidou, attended the ceremony.

The archive of Costas Montis includes personal documents, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs and other audiovisual material, which reflects his personality and his multifaceted activity.

The Rector of the University of Cyprus expressed his sincere thanks for the trust of the Costas Montis family towards the University and its Library. He noted that our Library now maintains a rich collection of archival material, which makes it a hub of information for researchers. “Researchers are now able to locate unique and rare items for their research in our University Library.” He added that the “Costas Montis Archive” will now be among other archival collections of prominent Cypriot writers, politicians and other personalities who left their mark on the history and culture of Cyprus through their actions.

Mrs Stalo Monti-Pouagare thanked the University of Cyprus for accepting the donation and for the excellent cooperation, expressing together with her brothers her relief for the rescue and digitization of their father’s archive, which opens new horizons for research and the promotion of his work.

The Director of the Library, Ms Elena Diomidis-Parpouna, expressed her gratitude and thanks for the donation of the Kostas Monti archive, as well as for the family’s trust in the University of Cyprus and its Library.

The “Costas Montis Archive” will be digitized and made available to the public through the digital infrastructure of the “LIKYTHOS” Library.
