The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki was honoured with the award “Best Technological Tool for Wine Tourism and Cultural Tourism” at the 8th Iter Vitis Awards, the award ceremony of which took place on 18 October 2024, at the Asconi Winery in Moldova.

Specifically, the Museum was honoured for the creation of the digital route Iter Vitis in its digital application “Museum on the Go“, through which visitors can take a digital tour of selected exhibits related to winemaking and wine-drinking in ancient Macedonia.

The award for the “Best Technological Tool for Wine Tourism and Cultural Tourism” was received by the Director General of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, Dr. Anastasia Gadolou, stressing that this distinction reflects a successful team effort, aiming to capture the common thematic cultural thread that connects the exhibits of a museum, through the use of new technologies.

The award ceremony took place with the support of the Moldovan Ministry of Culture and other important partners, with the participation of representatives from international organizations and cultural institutions from all over the world, as well as the Ambassadors of Greece and Italy in Moldova.

The Iter Vitis Awards, awarded by the Council of Europe’s Cultural Route organisation “Iter Vitis – Les Chemins de la vigne” (Paths of the vine), is an international institution that honours excellence in wine tourism and the promotion of viticulture and wine culture worldwide.

It is noted that the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki from 15 July 2023 will be one of the stops of the Council of Europe’s Cultural Route “Iter Vitis – Les Chemins de la vigne” (Paths of the vine) – as a result of coordinated actions by the Director General of the Museum, Dr Anastasia Gadolou, the President of the Route, Ms Emanuela Panke, and the Directorate for International Relations and European Union of the Ministry of Culture, which is the contact point for the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Programme.
