A special commemoration ceremony for the victims of Nazism, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Athens from the German occupation troops, will be organized by the Municipality of Athens next Saturday, October 12 -on the day of the anniversary- at the 3rd Cemetery of Athens.

During the ceremony, which will start at 16.00, the inauguration of the “Route of Remembrance 40-44”, dedicated to the victims of the period who did not have time to celebrate freedom, will take place.

The action is part of the anniversary events “1974 & 1944: Athens celebrates its freedom” and is organized by the Department of Cultural Heritage of the City Planning Department of the Municipality of Athens in cooperation with the Athens Development Corporation.

The scientific supervision of the project, “Those Who Didn’t Make It – Memory Route 40-44” as well as the research was undertaken by Zetta Antonopoulou, Dr. History of Art and Head of the Cultural Heritage Department of the Municipality of Athens. Eliza Neofytou, Architect – Educator, participated in the museological curation and research, while Nana Iakovidou, Dr. History – Archaeology, participated in the research and texts.
