Description
The reformed Master’s Program “Biology of Reproduction – Biomarkers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Perinatal Medicine” (MSc in Biology of Reproduction – Biomarkers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Perinatal Medicine) of the Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly has been operating since the academic year 2018-2019 under the direction of Professor Alexandros I. Daponte, Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Program was recently certified by the National Higher Education Authority of the Ministry of Health (ETHAAE) for 5 years (2023-2028).
Object – Purpose of the Postgraduate Program
Object of the Postgraduate Program is the provision of a high level of specialization, which includes both theoretical training and laboratory experience, as well as practice in conducting research in the fields of Reproductive Biology, Biomarkers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine to graduates of Medicine, Biology and other Health Scientists with the aim of the successful professional career in the private and public sector. Also, after their thorough education based on the most up-to-date bibliographic data, the graduates will be ready for doctoral-level postgraduate studies.
The program has as an aim to accomplish the better use of the established scientific work force of the above Faculties and the promotion and collaboration of the Professors of Clinics with Basic Sciences, via co-supervision of the post-graduate students of the present Post-graduate Program. Qualified post-graduate students are anticipated to contribute to the improvement of the facility services of Health and to the growth of economy of the Country.
Categories of candidates in the Postgraduate Program
Candidates that are considered suitable are:
- Graduated students from the Faculties of Medicine and the Faculties of Health Sciences (Dental, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing) of the Universities in Greece or equivalent recognized foreign Institutions
- Acceptable are also graduates of other Faculties (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical) of the Universities in Greece or equivalent recognized foreign Institutions
Duration of study
Each cycle (duration) of the Postgraduate Program leading to a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) is two (2) academic semesters for full study. The total number of credits (ECTS) required to obtain the Master’s Degree is sixty (60) ECTS. Each semester corresponds to 30 ECTS.
To receive the MSc degree each student is required:
- To attend and successfully examined in all core courses: ECTS 44
- To perform specific practical laboratory work in IVF and Biomarker Measurements: ECTS 8
- To prepare the Diploma thesis: ECTS 8.
