The Ministry of Tourism, the Greek National Tourism Organization and the Acropolis Museum present a photography exhibition by Robert McCabe titled “Χαίρε Ξένε. In the land of dreams” from 28 May 2024 until 8 September 2024, in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery at the Acropolis Museum ground floor.
This is a unique retrospective exhibition to McCabe’s “Greek era”, with about 100 photographs, aimed to highlight the timelessness of the photographs of the American artist.
The Minister of Tourism, Mrs Olga Kefalogianni says of the exhibition, “With their aesthetic quality and realism, Robert McCabe’s photographs offer a unique, valuable and rare glimpse of post-war Greece. They record and capture the character, the look, the aspirations of a people emerging from the darkness of conflict. They highlight the people, their everyday life, the culture, the history, the beauty of our country.”
On his behalf, the Director General of the Acropolis Museum, Professor Nikolaos Chr. Stambolidis claims that: “Robert McCabe’s photographs are the capturing and imprinting of the essence, in black and white or in colour, of a young man in love who, passing through on a journey of life and knowledge far away, was captured in the magic of ‘Calypso’, a country called Greece, which in turn captured pieces of its soul, ancient and modern.”
Entrance to the exhibition “Χαίρε Ξένε. In the land of dreams” is free to the public. A free admission ticket is required from the Museum Ticket Desk.
A bilingual publication (Greek-English) will soon be available in the Museum Shops.
