Continuing the rich global Geographical Science tradition with modern tools and approaches, the Department of Geography is distinguished for the high quality of its academic presence in an educational research environment that inspires students to face the complex and sophisticated challenges of the future, with an emphasis on developing thinking, finding solutions and making decisions.

Research in the Department of Geography focuses on social and environmental phenomena from the perspective of space and its role in shaping them, applying a variety of methodological approaches, analytical methods and tools. Many of its research projects are internationally recognized and contribute to understanding and solving global challenges on a wide range of topics, from environmental protection and geo-cultural heritage to the development of sustainable cities, and from migration to climate change and the response to environmental hazards and disasters.
