BESTIARIO is the title of the Theatre/Archaeology show that will take place, within the framework of the 2023 program of the “All of Greece one Culture” institution of the Ministry of Culture, on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd August in Crete and specifically at the Archaeological Site of Gournia in Pachia Ammos Ierapetra.

Efthymis Theou signs the dramaturgy and direction of this genuine performance.

Performed by: Theano Metaxa, Efthymis Theou

Synopsis

Two performers introduce to the public the prehistoric settlement in Gournia in eastern Crete not from the point of view of human action, but as a field of other beings, i.e. the animals that inhabited it and inhabit it: in the past, as shown by paleontological fossils and (zoo)archaeological their remains, as much as in current species, in the present – even in the prospects they have in the future. In an effort to reflect and comprehensively understand the relationships between the creatures of the world in the long run.

The performance is part of the already ten-year-old activity of the artistic group that combines theater and archeology and explores: how theatrical means can be used to approach the archaeological material with a new perspective while simultaneously strengthening bilateral ties with the respective local community; but also how archaeological tools (such as excavation and study of finds) can contribute to the creation of a site-specific artistic work.
