The Nutcracker, one of the most famous ballet works popular to young and old, is the first production by the newly formed Ballet of the Municipal Regional Theatre of Patras, with Loukas Thanos as artistic director. The opening night is scheduled for Saturday 18 December at 21:30, in the Apollon Municipal Theatre in Patras.

The work was first presented at the Imperial Mariinski Theatre in Saint Petersburg on 18 December 1892, choreographed by Lev Ivanov, with a libretto by Marius Petipa and a score by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The plot is based on the short story the Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann, adapted by French author Alexandre Dumas.
