Description
The objective of the program of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is to provide high-quality graduate education in the field of Molecular Biology & Genetics, and Biomedicine, with emphasis on Translational Research. Translational Research aims to move research findings from the researcher’s bench to the patient’s bedside and community. Training in translational research includes an understanding of complementary disciplines and enhancing communication and collaboration between basic laboratory researchers and clinical scientists. Students will become familiar with the basic principles, methodology and skills required for large-scale genome and protein expression analysis, biomarker analysis as well as the development of new medicines and diagnostic and therapeutic molecular applications. In addition, they will be trained in the principles of bioethics and the regulations for conducting clinical trials, biosafety, research skills, and entrepreneurship development. The Program graduates will be equipped to pursue careers in biomedical research, biotechnology and molecular diagnostics and seek prospects in academic and research institutions and laboratories, biomedical and diagnostic laboratories, as well as the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
The Program is annual and intensive, including the summer period, and comprising of two semesters with courses and a diploma thesis, which can be written either in Greek or in English.
Applications are accepted from graduates or final year students from Departments of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Medicine, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biological Applications and Technologies, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Veterinary Medicine, Informatics, Statistics, Diet and Nutrition, Agricultural Sciences or other relevant disciplines.
The selection of candidates will be based on the following criteria:
- GPA & detailed list of marks.
- Performance in undergraduate courses related to the Program’s specialization.
- Proven knowledge of English.
- Letters of recommendation.
- Any other information related to the qualifications of the candidate, provable by the supporting documents submitted.
Tuition fees: €3000
