The UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at the Digital Heritage Research Lab and its Research Center “Mnemosyne” at the Cyprus University of Technology are hosting a groundbreaking public demonstration of the EUrekaED-XR European Project, dedicated to the Enklistra of Saint Neophytus.

Sunday, May 24, 2026, 10:00 a.m., following the Divine Liturgy, at the Chapel of Saint Neophytus Tala, Paphos

The event is part of the 2026 Cultural Heritage Summit (Digital Heritage Summit 2026), which will take place May 26–29 in Limassol and is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

For the first time in Europe, a monument—specifically the 12th-century Enklistra of Saint Neophytos—the site of the saint’s ascetic life, study, and burial, featuring exceptional Byzantine frescoes— “comes to life” through high-quality 3D digitization, Artificial Intelligence, and captivating Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/XR) technologies. Beyond a simple Digital Twin, the Memory Twin approach enriches the monument with knowledge, narratives, and immersive experiences, allowing it to “speak” about its history, meaning, and cultural significance.

The demonstration will offer a unique opportunity for an immersive and interactive experience of this monument, highlighting how digital technologies can transform the preservation and experience of cultural memory!
