The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy, as part of its series of events entitled “People Worthy of Honour”, is organising an event on the life and work of Konstantinos Doxiadis on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the event hall of the Hellenic Parliament, 22-24 Amalias Street, entrance on Rallous Manou Square.

A pioneer, visionary, and exceptional technocrat, the award-winning urban planner and architect Konstantinos A. Doxiadis (1913-1975) deeply believed that people are an integral part of the city and that their harmonious coexistence with nature, society, buildings, and networks contributes to its balanced functioning. A personality with international renown and a catalytic contribution to the reconstruction of the post-war world,he represented Greece at the UN in numerous city reconstruction projects around the world. He was a member of the Resistance during the Occupation and served as Deputy Minister of Reconstruction after the war. He tried to imagine urban environments over time in order to design “smart cities” with a vision for the future.

The following speakers will talk about Konstantinos A. Doxiadis:

  • Nikos Katsikis, assistant professor of Urban Planning at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), on “Beyond the Ecumenopolis: processes and dimensions of extensive urbanization.”
  • Alexander – Andreas Kyrtsis, professor emeritus of Sociology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, on “The residential dimension of socioeconomic development in the era of decolonization.”
  • Dimitris Filippidis, professor emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens, on “Doxiadis and the human city.”
  • Panagiotis Tournikiotis, architect, professor emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens, on “The three antiquities of K. A. Doxiadis and the road to utopia.”

The event will be moderated by Tassos Sakellaropoulos, historian, head of the Benaki Museum Historical Archives, and member of the scientific committee of the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy.
