The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, said farewell with sadness and respect to Chrysa Maltezou, the eminent historian who left a special imprint on the study of our medieval history.
As she said in her statement: “With her many years of research activity at leading institutions, but also her decades of teaching at the University of Crete and then at the University of Athens, Chrysa Maltezou contributed substantially to the study of Hellenism under occupation, a scientific subject that she essentially co-shaped. Undoubtedly, a special moment in her multifaceted career was her long-standing direction of the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice, to which she gave new impetus. The crowning achievement and recognition of her contribution was her election and fruitful tenure at the Academy of Athens.
Chrysa Maltezou leaves behind a massive literary oeuvre, consisting of hundreds of contributions, which she combined harmoniously with her uninterrupted university teaching. He leaves an exemplary example of a dedicated scientist, with a multifaceted and lasting contribution.”
