The exhibition presents postcards, which from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the digital age were the most widespread means of representing symbolic places, events and depictions of the urban landscape.
On Monday, July 19, 2021, the exhibition titled The City in the Balkans – Places, People, Memory on postcards opens to the public, at the exhibition space of the Thessaloniki History Centre. The exhibition was designed by the Institute of Balkan Studies and the Thracology Centre of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and is implemented in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki History Centre and the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki. The exhibition presents postcards, which from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the digital age were the most widespread means of representing symbolic places, events and depictions of the urban landscape. Postcards capture the atmosphere, the historical memory, and the cultural diversity of the capitals and other cities of the Balkans.
