The Society for Epirotic Studies has the honor to invite you on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 19:00, to the lecture of the Associate Professor of Ancient Greek History of the University of Ioannina, Mr: Tharypas the Molossus: Aeacides, king and beloved, which will take place at the Society’s Megaron Hall (entrance from the Litharitsia Park).
The topic of the talk is about the Ajacid king of the Molossians, Tharypas, who, at the end of the 5th century BC, reorganized the institutions of his kingdom. This development was accompanied by a reorientation of his foreign policy and the development of personal networking ties with members of powerful families from neighbouring Thessaly. The possible relationship between Tharypas and Menon, attested by Xenophon, is examined, as well as its wider political, social and religious dimensions for the nations of Ancient Epirus.
The admission is free.
