With great emotion and a large turnout, the official presentation of the historic piano that belonged to Nikos and Eleni Kazantzakis took place on Tuesday August the 5th evening at the Thirathen Museum of Traditional Musical Instruments. This unique musical instrument, with keys made of ebony and ivory, now adorns the museum and symbolically returns to the birthplace of the great Greek intellectual.

The donor of the piano, artist and art historian Vanna Karamaouna, moved the audience with her speech, referring to her deep personal relationship with Eleni Kazantzakis and how she gave her the piano in her childhood, when they lived in Geneva. The donation of this unique musical instrument to the Thyrathen Museum is a great honor for Heraklion and Cretan culture.

The event opened with a welcome address by Mr. George Stasinakis, co-founder of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, followed by a speech by professor and researcher Nikos Gigourtakis on the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis.

The audience had the opportunity to enjoy a special musical performance, with composer and musician Isidoros Papadakis on the piano and Marilena Vassilaki singing, in an atmosphere of deep emotional intensity.
