On Friday, September 5, the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Research and Study Foundation, the city of Chania, and Crete bid farewell to Nikolaos Papadakis (Papadis).

Nikolaos Papadakis, together with the Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinos, Irineos Galanakis, were the driving forces behind the creation of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Research and Study Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” which was the result of many years of efforts by the community of Chania and Crete to create a nationwide institution in the city, a center for research and study of the work and era of Eleftherios Venizelos.

During the Foundation’s 25 years of operation, Nikolaos Papadakis served as chairman of the Executive Committee and general director of the Foundation. He was essentially the driving force behind its activities, serving with unique passion and dedication to preserving historical memory and promoting the political legacy and heritage of Venizelos.

By organizing conferences, exhibitions, publications, and showcasing archival material, always with scientific awareness and dedication, he promoted the study of the personality and legacy of Eleftherios Venizelos.

His life’s work was the voluminous biography of Venizelos. It is a legacy for the study not only of the work of the Cretan politician but also of the modern history of Greece.

The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, the Municipality of Chania, and other organizations bid farewell to Nikolaos Papadakis with a message.
