A series of memorial events, on the occasion of the 80th year since the Executions of Kokkinia, is organized by the Municipality of Nikaia-Ayios Ioannis Rentis from 21 September to 12 October.

The main event will take place on Monday 23 September, at 18:45, with a memorial service and the laying of a wreath at the marble plaque – tribute to the young Athanasios K. Habilidis, aged 16, who was killed by German bullets on 24 September 1944.

The Mayor of Nikaia Konstantinos Marangakis and representatives of associations and organizations of the city will lay wreaths. The event will conclude with a speech by the historian Menelaos Charalambidis and a discussion on the book “The Collaborators. Armed, political and economic cooperation during Occupation”, at 20:00, at the Kokkinia Blockade Mantra (102A Ilioupoleos).

In the context of the events of honour and memory for the Executed “martyrs” of of the Blockade of Kokkinia “80 years after…”, the Guitar Orchestra of the Municipal Conservatory of Nikaia organize on September 21 and 22, the 7th Guitar Festival of Kokkinia Blockade, entitled “Songs of the peoples of the world”, will be held at the Kokkinia Blockade Mantra, at 20:00, with the support of the Cultural Centre of Nice.

On Sunday 22 September there will be a concert “All the voices of the world”, with Rita Antonopoulou, with the participation of the Nikea Guitar Trio.

On Tuesday 24 September, at 20:00, at the same venue, Irini Rinioti, poet, will speak on the topic: “Kokkinia: Refugee and Resistance. A Contemporary Place for the Survival and Revival of Memory”.

On Wednesday, September 25th, at 20:00, the Poetic music event entitled “We resist with lyrics to the violence of the times” will be hosted, which is part of the 10th Athens International Poetry Festival and is organized in collaboration with the Poets’ Circle.

The events will conclude with a two-day event, entitled “Mnimi i Neratzea”, on 11 and 12 October. This is a 24-hour event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Executions of Kokkinia, which will be held in collaboration with the “Kini Topoi” group, at 19:00, in the square of 17 August 1944.
