Informed of the loss of Julia Dimakopoulou, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni made the following statement:

Julia Dimakopoulou was one of the most important figures of post-war artistic life, active for more than six decades. The “Nees Morfes” gallery, of which she was co-founder in 1959, not only served as a welcoming exhibition space for dozens of artists and their works, but also came to renew the artistic movement and the public’s relationship with contemporary creation. As well as the Panhellenic Association of Art Galleries, in the founding of which Julia Dimakopoulou was a pioneer, serving as its president for many years, and the now largest Greek foire, the renowned Art Athina, which bears her stamp. And, of course, the ISET, the Institute of Contemporary Greek Art, as an ark for the preservation and documentation of contemporary art, which was founded and supported by Julia Dimakopoulou, before she transferred it, through a donation, to the National Gallery.

Julia Dimakopoulou’s contribution to the encouragement, promotion and preservation of contemporary creativity was truly invaluable, as she combined her solid knowledge with innovative ideas and respect for the artistic work and the creator with the need to effectively promote it as a product of high value. Her multifaceted activity leaves behind institutions, schemes and ideas that are bound to continue to have a manifold impact on our artistic affairs.”
