Ioanna Papantoniou was a set designer and costume designer for the National Theater Greece and, in fact, the first woman to hold this position.

She was a person whose name is associated with her long-standing and steadfast contribution to Greek culture.

However, her name is inextricably linked to the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation “Basil Papantoniou,” which she founded in 1974 in Nafplio. The Foundation was her life’s work and a valuable guardian of Greek cultural heritage.

Thanks to her systematic and methodical efforts, she managed to enrich the Foundation’s collection with objects from Greek folklore, especially traditional clothing, which forms the core of the Collection.
